NCC Day - 4th Sunday of November
National Cadets Corps (NCC) day is celebrated every year on the fourth Sunday in the month of November.
The NCC in India was formed by the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948 on 15th July 1948.
The first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru presided over the function of raising the first NCC Unit at Delhi on the last Sunday of Nov 1948.
The motto for the NCC is “Unity and Discipline”.
Salim Khan to receive Special Award at IFFI
Screenwriter Salim Khan will be honored with ‘International Film Festival of India (IFFI) Special Award’ for his lifetime contribution to cinema.
He will receive the honour at the closing ceremony of the 49th edition of the IFFI on November 28.
He will be presented with a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a certificate, and a shawl.
“Aadi Mahotsav” Organized By Tribal Affairs Ministry in Delhi
The 4th edition of annual “Aadi Mahotsav”, a National Tribal Festival organized by Ministry of Tribal Affairs in association with TRIFED and Ministry of Culture to celebrate and cherish the spirit of tribal culture, craft, cuisine and commerce held at Dilli Haat, Shri Aurobindo Marg, INA, Delhi.
This year, more than 600 tribal artisans from 23 states, 80 tribal chefs hailing from 20 States besides 14 cultural troupes comprising more than 200 artists are taking part in the Mahotsav.
Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram inaugurated the event.
Ram statue to be installed in Ayodhya
On 25 November 2018, the Uttar Pradesh government unveiled the picture of the grand statue of Lord Ram that it proposes to install in Ayodhya.
The height of the Ram statue will be 151 metres and its overhead umbrella will be 20 metres in height.
The statue will be made of bronze.
There will also be a provision for a ‘modern museum’ inside the base that will showcase the history of Ayodhya.
Nariman Light House to be inaugurated
A rooftop memorial at Nariman House, the Jewish centre in Colaba, is to be formally inaugurated on Monday, the tenth anniversary of the Mumbai terror attacks.
The memorial will be called the Nariman Light House.
The waterfall monument constitutes the names of all the victims of 26/11 terror attack including the policemen and National Security Guards and plaques of the sites where the terrorists attacked, surrounded with lush green plants.
Lord Buddha’s statue in Rajgir unveiled
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveiled a 70-feet tall statue of Lord Buddha at Rajgir in Nalanda district on 25 November 2018.
It is the second tallest statue of Buddha in the country.
The statue has been installed above a 16-metre radius pedestal in the middle of Lake Ghora Katora.
It is made of pink sandstone.
To resign is a right of the employee - Supreme Court
According to a Supreme Court order, an employee has the right to resign from a job.
An employee cannot be compelled to serve in case he is not willing until and unless there is some stipulation in the rules.
The Supreme Court made the observations while allowing the appeal of a former Air India engineer, who was refused his dues by the Central government carrier.
Harmanpreet is the captain of Twenty20 XI
Indian cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur was named the captain of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 XI.
A selection panel of International Cricket Council (ICC) picked up the team on the basis of the players’ performances in the Women’s World T20 tournament.
3 players from England, 2 from Australia and one each from Pakistan, New Zealand, and the West Indies are also part of the team.
Chatbot ‘ANYA’ launched by Lupin
Lupin, India’s third-largest drugmaker on 23 November 2018 has launched a chatbot named ‘ANYA’ for disease awareness.
It is specially designed to provide medically verified information aimed at answering patient queries related to ailments.
ANYA will initially address queries related to diabetes.
Manu won double gold in shooting
Manu Bhaker of Haryana won a double gold in junior sports pistol at the National Shooting Championship on 25 November 2018.
Ravi and Rahi Sarnobat were crowned national champions in the men’s 10m air rifle and women’s 25m pistol events respectively at National Shooting Championship on 25 November 2018.
In the 25m junior girl’s pistol event, Bhaker, Tanu Rawal and Tejaswani won a gold medal.
Maitree Diwas to be celebrated in Arunachal
Maitree Diwas, a multi-cultural social event, will be organised at Tawang on 28th-29th November 2018 in Arunachal Pradesh.
Maitree Diwas aims at celebrating the strong spirit of friendship that exists between the civilians and the Indian Army.
This will be the 10th Maitree Diwas since it was initiated by Late Dorjee Khandu, Former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh in 2004.
Sanjay Kumar won the First UN-GGIM award
Sanjay Kumar was conferred the ‘Global Geospatial Industry Ambassador’ Award by the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) on 19 November 2018.
He was awarded at the United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress held in China.
He is the Founder and CEO of Geospatial Media & Communications.
Bhavani Devi won gold in Fencing Championship
India’s Bhavani Devi won the gold medal in the Sabre event in the ‘Senior Commonwealth Fencing Championship’ held in Australia on 25 November 2018.
She defeated England’s Emily Ruaux in the final.
Bhavani Devi is the first Indian to win a gold medal in the Commonwealth Fencing Championship.
Earlier, Bhavani Devi won a silver medal in the Tournoi Satellite Fencing Championship in Iceland.
12 movies nominated for UNESCO Gandhi Medal
The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has nominated 12 movies for 2018 International Council for Film, Television and Audiovisual Communication (ICFT) UNESCO Gandhi Medal.
Of these 12 films, two are from India and the rest are foreign movies.
The two Indian movies competing for the honour are Tamil film ‘Baaram’ and Ladakhi movie ‘Walking with the Wind’.
Sameer Verma won the Badminton Championship
Badminton player Sameer Verma won the ‘Syed Modi International Badminton Championships’ on 25 November 2018.
He defeated China’s Guangzu Lu in the men’s singles final.
Men’s doubles pair of Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and women’s doubles players Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy also won silver in their respective finals.
India-Russia Strategic Economic Dialogue held
The first-ever India Russia Strategic Economic Dialogue was held at St. Petersburg in Russia on 25 November 2018.
The Indian side was led by NITI Aayog’s Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar with the Russian delegation headed by Economic Development Minister Maxim Oreshkin.
The participants will discuss the development of bilateral ties in trade, investment, technology, and industry.
Australia won ‘Women’s World Twenty-20’ title
Australia cricket team has won the ‘Women’s World Twenty-20’ title.
It was their fourth World Twenty-20 title.
They defeated England in the final match.
Austrailia’s Ashleigh Gardner was named ‘Player of the Match’.
Austrailia’s Alyssa Healy was named ‘Player of the tournament’.
Noida & Greater Noida selected by UN
The United Nations has selected Uttar Pradesh’s Noida and Greater Noida to participate in its Global Sustainable Cities 2025 initiative.
They have been selected in the ‘University City’ category.
Overall 25 cities across the world have been selected in five categories by the UN Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) cities initiative.
Bharat Electronics wins CII-Exim Bank Business Award
State-run Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) won the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-Exim Bank Business Excellence Award and the jury’s commendation for being a role-model organisation.
The award is the highest recognition in the CII-Exim Bank Award for Business Excellence, instituted by the CII and the Export-Import Bank of India to enhance the competitiveness of India Inc.
InterGlobe Aviation Chairman Devadas Mallya Mangalore passed away
InterGlobe Aviation said its chairman Devadas Mallya Mangalore passed away in the morning of November 25, 2018.
InterGlobe Aviation is the country’s largest airline IndiGo.
Mr.Devadas Mallya was also a non-executive independent director. He had served as the CMD of Bank of Baroda and Bank of Maharashtra.
MoS (Home) Kiren Rijiju Inaugurates 14th Formation Day of NDMA
The Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju has inaugurated the 14th Formation Day of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on 27th November 2018 in New Delhi.
The theme of this year’s Formation Day is ‘Early Warning for Disasters’.
On the occasion, NDMA also released a training manual for masons on Hazard-Resistant Construction. A study report on “Gujarat floods 2017: A Case Study” will also be released.
Indian Organ Donation Day - 27 November
‘9th Indian Organ Donation Day’ was organized by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) in Delhi.
Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare stated that People’s participation and people’s awareness is the key to encouraging organ donation.
The best performing State of Tamil Nadu was also felicitated. The State of Maharashtra received an award for being the best State for promoting awareness of organ donations.
Dr. Subramania Iyer K, Kochi was felicitated for conducting first hand transplant in the country and Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar, Pune, received the award for conducting 1st Uterine Transplant in India.
