WB inked $172 million agreement with AP

The Central and Andhra Pradesh governments and the World Bank have signed the $172.20 million loan agreement for an agriculture project.

The project will enhance the agricultural productivity, profitability, and climate resilience of poor and marginalised farmers in Andhra Pradesh.

The projects seeks to ensure that farming continues to remain a financially viable activity.


Mo bus service launched in Odisha

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the technology-driven and citizen-friendly ‘Mo bus’ service in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

The bus has some facilities such as free wi-fi, CCTV surveillance, public information display system and on-board announcements. It will cover 9 routes in Bhubaneswar in the first phase.

Mo Bus mobile app will also be launched through which passengers can book tickets and find the locations of the vehicle.


Separate High Court for Andhra Pradesh

The Supreme Court has given nod for a separate High Court for Andhra Pradesh.

It will start functioning from 1 January 2019 in Amravati.

The new court will be the 25th High Court in the country.

Presently, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have a common High Court situated at Hyderabad.

The existing court will from 2019 be known as the Telangana High Court.


Dharmendra appointed Ambassador to Iran

Senior diplomat Gaddam Dharmendra has been appointed India’s Ambassador to Iran.

Dharmendra is a 1990-batch Indian Foreign Service officer.

At present, he is the Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.

He replaced Saurabh Kumar, who was appointed India’s ambassador to Myanmar in October 2018.


UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath renamed Faizabad as Ayodhya

During the celebrations on the eve of Diwali, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath made three major announcements:

Faizabad district will be renamed as Ayodhya,

a new airport will be named after Lord Rama,

And a new medical college will be named after King Dasharatha.


Namrata Ahuja bagged IPI-India Award

The prestigious 2018 IPI India Award for excellence in journalism has been given to Namrata Ahuja of ‘The Week’ magazine.

She received the award for her exclusive story on Naga underground camps.

The award comprises a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, a trophy and a citation.

The International Press Institute (IPI) is a forum of editors, publishers and senior executives of newspapers and magazines.


ICICI Bank launched co-branded credit card with Amazon pay

The co-branded card is available on the Visa platform. This move is expected to help significantly expand the credit card customer base for the bank.

This will make online shopping more affordable and provide the best value to Amazon Pay customers.

The features of the card are: It enables Amazon Prime members to earn 5 percent reward points on shopping on Amazon.in.

Other customers to get 3 percent reward points. Additional 2 percent reward points on spends at Amazon Pay partner merchants across categories such as food delivery, utility payments, movie ticketing etc.


Online portal to promote women farmer launched

The Women and Child Development Ministry have set up an online marketing portal.

Named ‘Mahila-E-Haat’, the portal was launched ahead of the ‘Women of India National Organic Festival, 2018’.

The portal is a unique online platform where the women organic farmers and entrepreneurs from across the country can display their products.


PM to inaugurate various projects in Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Ring Road Phase-I and Babatpur-Varanasi road in Varanasi on 12 November 2018.

The Prime Minister will also launch inland waterways terminal on river Ganga.

It is the first of the four multi-modal terminals being constructed on NW-I (River Ganga) as part of the World Bank-aided Jal Marg Vikas project.


Pakistan-China luxury bus service launched

Pakistan and China have launched a luxury bus service passing from Lahore to Kashgar city in China on 5 November 2018.

It is part of an initiative to connect the two countries via road under the US$ 60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The bus will take 36 hours from Lahore to reach the Xinjiang province in China’s far west.


Uttar Pradesh Ayodhya Deepotsav 2018 enters Guinness Book of World Records: Over 3 lakh diyas lit

A Guinness certificate was issued to UP government‘s tourism department and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Avadh University, Faizabad, for over 3,01,152 earthen lamps illuminated on the bank of River Sarayu on Chhoti Diwali as part of Deepotsava.

The feat was achieved in the presence of Adityanath and South Korean first lady Kim-Jung Sook.


Book on history of women’s cricket to be out

A book on history of women’s cricket in India will be released on 30 November 2018.

The book, titled ‘The Fire Burns Blue: A History of Women’s Cricket in India’, is co-authored by sports journalists Karunya Keshav and Sidhanta Pathak.

The book explores the biggest moments for the game in the country.


India re-elected as member of ITU council till 2022

India elected as a member of the International Telecommunications Union-ITU Council for another four-year term from 2019 to 2022.

The elections to the Council were held during the ongoing ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2018 at Dubai.

India secured 165 votes and ranked third among the 13 countries elected to the council from the Asia-Australasia region, and eighth among the 48 countries elected to the council globally.


Government released funds to six border states

The government of India has released over 113 crore rupees to six border states to meet special development needs of people living in isolated locations.

The amount was released to Assam, Nagaland, Sikkim, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand under the Border Area Development Programme (BADP).

BADP schemes include construction of primary health centres, schools, community centres etc.


Meghalaya announces Aqua Mission 2.0

The Meghalaya Government announced `378 crore investment in the State’s flagship aquaculture mission named ‘Meghalaya State Aqua Mission 2.0’.

The aim of the mission is to cut down fish imports into the State.

Under the mission, willing partners will need to contribute only 15% while another 25% will be credit linkages and the rest 60% Government assistance.


China unveiled ‘most advanced’ stealth drone

China has unveiled its new-generation stealth combat unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), UAV – CH7, on 5 November 2018.

The CH7 makes China the second country, following the US, to produce high-altitude long-endurance combat UAVs with advanced penetration capabilities.

The CH7 can intercept radar electronic signals, and simultaneously detect, verify and monitor high-value targets.


Rohit Sharma sets record, becomes first cricketer in history to score 4 T20I hundreds

He achieved the milestone in 58 balls during the second T20I against the Windies at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

He now has 2,196 runs in the format. He also overtook Virat Kohli (2,102 runs) to become India‘s leading run-getter in T20Is, and ended up second on the list of the highest run-getters in the world, just behind New Zealand‘s Martin Guptill.

He also became the first captain to score two T20I hundreds.


First Chairperson of Lokayukta sworn in

Retired Gauhati High Court judge Pranoy Kumar Musahary was sworn in as the first Chairperson of Meghalaya Lokayukta on 6 November 2018.

Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy administered the oath of office to Justice (retd) Musahary.

The Lokayukta is empowered to probe allegations of corruption against public functionaries such as the Chief Minister, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Assembly.


Angad Vir Singh won gold medal in shooting

Angad Vir Singh Bajwa won the gold medal in the men’s skeet final of the 8th Asian Shotgun Championship on 6 November 2018.

He became the first Indian skeet shooter to win a gold medal at any continental or world level event.

Di Jin of China won the silver medal while Saeed Al Maktoum of UAE won the bronze medal.


Elavenil-Hriday won gold in shooting

India’s Air Rifle mixed team junior pairing of Elavenil Valarivan and Hriday Hazarika won the gold medal at the 11th Asian Championship in Kuwait City on 6 November 2018.

A second Indian pair of Mehuli Ghosh and Arjun Babuta also won bronze in the same event.

The silver medal was won Chinese pair of Shi Mengyao and Wang Yuefeng.
