He was conferred with the rank of Marshal of the Indian Air Force in January 2002, in recognition of his service and contribution to the Indian Air Force. Arjan Singh was born in 1919 and joined the Royal Indian Air Force in 1938. He played a crucial role in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, where he led the Indian Air Force in several successful operations. He was appointed as the Chief of Air Staff of the Indian Air Force in 1964 and served in that position until 1969. Arjan Singh was the first and the only five-star ranked officer of the Indian Air Force, and his contribution to the development of the Indian Air Force was immense. He passed away in 2017 at the age of 98.
